TDCAA Junior Bronze Medalists, Enrique Machuca and Shawn Noguiera

During the TDCAA junior badminton tournament, our team went completely into the tournament striving for a medal this year. The confidence, support, and morale each student had during their games gave them support to lift one another. The junior boys doubles, Enrique Machuca and Shawn Noguiera wet undefeated on their first 4 games, disposing the first two teams with a score of 21-4 and 21-8. Their goal was to win gold, or at least a medal after losing sadly last year due to an injury one of the players had. As they reached to the semi- finals of the tournament, our boys lost to the UTS doubles team sending them to the losing bracket and losing the hope of winning gold. There the boys had to play 3 games in order to play for the silver medal match against the loser of the gold medal match. Through inspiration of Ms. Giovanetti and the confidence Shawn and Enrique put in their games, they were on fire and beat all teams to qualify to the silver medal match.  In the silver medal match, our boys came against UTS, the team they previously lost to in the semis. Our boys took the lead in the first part of the game, but later on lost it, and received bronze medal after losing to a score of 32-27. Congrats to the boys for bringing a medal home, and we hope for their best in next year during seniors.

The BMTM Royal’s track team were built upon d competed this year their most important race of the year, the TDCAA Track and Field Championship in Centennial Park from May 8-12. The team has worked very hard in the weight room every week, focusing on power, stamina, determination and pace. We are looking forward for their outdoor season in April, with around 15-20 of our students signed up for the team. Coach Mr. Mannella and Annie Crooks have done morning and after school practices for the athletes. We wish them all the best and success on their upcoming meets.

Another season is about to begin for our girls, and that means lots of training coming up. This year the Royal’s girl’s soccer team are aiming to impress us all with many new faces in the team. The girls are looking more then ready as in every practice they strive to succeed. Coach Mrs. Alonzi is the head for their team, and from jogging in the halls, to hard work in our school’s playroom, they do not only look to win games this year, but to build up a team ready to compete in the future. We wish them all the best in their upcoming games, and to bring the banner home!

Badminton

The Royal’s badminton team has seem to once again impress our school this year. Although they had very close league games in which they lost to, one game they really stood out was the 9-2 win against Father John Redmond with the whole team showing a huge fight. They are looking to qualify to the league playoffs as they have the year before. As well as their upcoming TDCAA Badminton tournament in Humber college in April, the team is looking more then ready to fight for a medal in their name. The coach Mr. Otten has done a very good job with the team this year, lots of support, and dedication has been shown in practice and in games. Both the juniors and senior team have put out lots of hard work and effort to bring home a win and wish them best of luck in their most important tournament yet!
