Review: Room

"ROOM" is a kidnapping novel by Emma Donoghue about a five year old boy named Jack, and his mother who live in a 11 by 11 foot room.

To Jack, the constraints of the room is the entire world. It is where he was born and grew up. It is where he lives with his Ma. Where they learn, read, eat, sleep, and play. At night his Ma keeps him safe in a wardrobe, where he is to sleep when Old Nick comes to visit.

Room is home to Jack, but to Ma it is the cell where Old Nick has kept her captive for 7 years. With determination, and he drive of motherly love, Ma has created a life for Jack although she knows it is just not enough for them to live. She creates an escape plan that relies on Jack's bravery and luck. What was in store to come, she was not prepared for.

Told entirely in the thoughs and language of the energetic, pragmatic five year old Jack, ROOM is a celebration of the limitless bond between parent and child. Emma Donoghue brilliantly executed a novel about what it means to journey from one world to another.

RATE: 9.5/10
